Abstract
The authors have developed a flexible high-performance VLSI chip, VPC-1 which is the engine of a high-performance programmable controller that executes both instrumentation control and electric control. They discuss the language, configuration, high-speed processing method, and computation method of the high-performance single-chip PC processor. It provides high-performance PC functions such as bit computation, fixed-point computation and floating-point computation, all of which are performed by hardware in a short time. The instruction set was designed with graphical representation and simple hardware operations in mind. Each instruction has a 32-b configuration. In addition, most of the instructions are executed within one clock cycle, RISC technology and microprogramming technology were combined to reduce hardware, increase execution speed and process longer, complicated operations
