Study of animal life and water quality in Nahr Beirut

This study completes the work the authors have already started for estimating the water quality of Nahr Beirut by using diatomic indices. The description of hydrographic network and of the geological framework of the water flow is given with the bioindicator of benthic macroinverterbrates. The utilisation of these latest bioindicators and calculation of the biotic indices allows estimation of the water quality from the diverse stations considered. The results obtained are in accord with those obtained at the time of the preceding study. They confirm the much accentuated deterioration of the water quality of Nahr Beirut downstream from the village of Mansourich because of the water discharge level in the sector
