Abstract :
This paper investigates the modeling of thermostatic loads. Thermostatic loads are those loads operated by a thermostat. Due to their physical nature they exhibit periodic behaviour. Modeling of this class of loads is a challenge to predict the system performance especially when the system is operated near to its operational limits. The established modeling approach starts from utilizing thermal equivalent circuits of the thermostatic load under consideration. An iterative algorithm is provided to account for the interdependence between the loads and the network. Heaters are discussed in detail due to the simplicity of both their thermal model and their electrical model. The model is verified with a test system.
