Abstract :
A novel PWM (pulse-width-modulated) AC-to-DC power converter with controllability of output voltage (DC voltage) and a sinusoidal source current has been proposed. The proposed converter has two or four switching devices in the diode bridge of the AC-to-DC converter. Furthermore, a converter with one switching device is also available. Two methods of deciding the pulse width in the converters based on the equalizing area method are introduced. The operation mode in three types of AC-to-DC converters is clarified, and a comparative assessment of the control characteristics in these converters is carried out
