Abstract :
This paper presents a novel analytical model to characterize the degradation of the bit-error rate of differential phase-shift keyed (DPSK) signals impaired by cross-phase modulation (XPM) in mixed DPSK and amplitude shift keyed (ASK) transmission systems. The model is validated using Monte Carlo simulation and used to assess the dependence of the system performance on the dispersion pre-compensation of a 20 sections transmission system.
