Abstract
Among some home bus transmission media, power distribution lines have been investigated as a simple and low-cost data transmission medium, since they provide reasonably universal channels to all residences. The authors have already developed a power line spread-spectrum (SS) modem LSI chip, also introduced a total home bus system based on the main bus and SS power line bus. A home control system based on a Japanese standard SS power line bus is now available in Japan. This paper introduces a high-performance power line SS modem LSI that uses a newly developed SS modulation and SS demodulation technique (CSK: code shift keying). The performance evaluation results indicate that synchronization time is greatly reduced and highly reliable transmission is realized.<>
