Abstract :
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is tasked with forecasting costs of cleaning up hazardous waste sites, and ensuring that this work is accomplished within congressional budgets. Expert systems have been shown to effectively address a wide range of environmental decision-making processes, including cost estimating. The author describes an expert system developed to estimate and control the costs of the initial phases of hazardous waste cleanup
