Abstract :
The authors extend the concept of a macromodel to include a class of digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The macromodel is applied to an 8-b DAC and the performances of the device-level model and the macromodel are compared using SPICE. The macromodel is shown to be faster by a factor of 20-30 and minimizes the convergence problems typically associated with SPICE. The differences between the device-level model and the macromodel are even more dramatic for larger-order DACs or when several DACs are used in the same VLSI circuit
