Abstract
The authors analyze the applicability to IMS (intelligent manufacturing systems) of current international standardization work in ISO TC184 and IEC SC65 with specific examples drawn from the work of IEC SC65B/WG7 (programmable controllers). Based on this analysis, research and standardization priorities are recommended which should lead to improved transferability of IMS technologies
