  • Abstract
Switched reluctance motor (SRM) for use as a spindle drive in a spinning machine will be presented in this paper. The SRM drive system is intended to meet the increasing demands of the textile industry with respect to manufacturing time, costs and quality of textile twists. The desired SRM drive system is supposed to run at high speed up to 30000 rpm and has to be robust, efficient and low cost since a mass production is aspired. For the design of the SRM a finite elements (FEM) model was developed which allows a fast and accurate machine design. A comparison of predicted and measured static SRM characteristic will show the high reliability of the presented design procedure. In order to run the motor without a shaft-position sensor a simple and robust sensorless control method is proposed. Therefore, the design of the control system along with the power electronics converter will be presented.
