Abstract :
In the control of a static VAr compensator, it is necessary to know the displacement power factor in order to compensate for the reactive power of the load. If the current waveform is distorted, this becomes difficult and filtering techniques are required. In this paper, the displacement power factor is found by means of a discrete Fourier transform on a cycle by cycle basis. The algorithm of the transform is optimized for this application. It is then implemented in a 21 kVAr SVC
