Abstract
Using performability analysis mechanisms to assess systems´ risk is proposed in this paper, so that the impacts from different factors can be integrated. Performability is a metric proposed three decades ago [1, 8] to address the effects of performance degradation caused by failures. Despite its sophisticated mechanisms [10], industry today still treats performance and reliability as two separate issues. Will this cause any problem in risk assessment for performance degradable systems? Through the study presented here, where the risk on a hypothetical system is analyzed, the above question is addressed.
