Abstract :
A description is given of ODS, a diagnostic system based on a qualitative model of the artifact to diagnose, and on a diagnostic strategy which makes use of explicit models of the malfunction mechanisms. ODS has been prototyped and validated on an application of industrial importance, of which is an overview is given. The validation results show that current representation and reasoning techniques in the area of qualitative modeling need to be improved before they can be used as a basis for industrial development
