Abstract
The basic concept of abstract responses is implemented within a host relational database system. The authors illustrate the practicality of having an abstract query response capability, i.e. they examine how to embed modules producing abstract responses into the host database system with the minimum of change to the host system itself. They then discuss ways in which the concepts of artificial intelligence, priority tables and exception handling could be handled with abstract query responses. The current state of the implementation is briefly discussed. The authors illustrate a way to embed the abstract query responses into an existing database system. It is shown that very little of the code of the existing system needs to be altered. Modification involves appending the necessary code at the combination junctions between existing modules in the database system
