Abstract :
Multipurpose shunt capacitor filters in a pulp and paper mill environment to reduce the starting voltage drop of a 23000 hp synchronous motor, provide load voltage control, and limit the harmonic current and voltage distortions in the distribution system are described. These three objectives are met by two single-tuned shunt filter banks of 10.75 and 4.6 MVAr installed on a single 13.8 kV bus. A digital computer-based study leading to the optimum design of the shunt filter banks is emphasized.<>
