A harmless treatment process for the removal of heavy metals was studied in a fluidized bed reactor by inducing crystallization of heavy metals on the surface of silica sand. The removal efficiency of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ all achieved about 99.99% in different concentration ranges. Further harmless treatment of the nucleated precipitation by acid hydrolysis or cement solidification was studied. The metal ion leaching was extremely low thus the heavy metal wastewater could be treated by this method without secondary pollution. So this method has a bright prospect in the industrial application.
