Abstract
After reviewing conventional halftoning theory, the author describes how PC-based publishing systems handle illustrations, specifically, halftoned art. He summarizes some of the limitations of digital halftoning and shows how advances in printing technology are circumventing these shortcomings. It is concluded that desktop publishing and digital halftoning provide the means to create illustrated manuals with comparative ease and reasonable cost
