"Step flocculation-Biological Activated Carbon" combined process was used to treat cotton stalk semi-chemical pulp effluent of a paper mill and the two processes were optimizedo The results showed that the average COD removal efficiency of the step flocculation process was 62.4%, about 35% higher than that of the first process. COD and chromaticity removal efficiencies of BAC process were 58.0% and 64.8% respectively. The treated effluent of the combined process could completely meet the recycling requirement for pulping.
