Abstract :
One can verify in the literature dealing with overlay networks that there exists a lot of overlay networks with a lot of different purposes and applications such, file indexing/sharing applications, distributed file storage applications, multicast and quality of service, content delivery applications, etc. Each of these overlay networks has a network topology that serves the purpose of this overlay network. Such a tree topology for the overlay dealing with streaming or multicast or a DHT topology for the file indexing/sharing application for example. The specific network topology of an overlay network also prevents to use an overlay network for another purpose for which it is intended for. With the ROSA overlay network we choose to consider the purpose as a simple discrete parameter. This parameter is called density. Once the density is set, ROSA organizes in a fully automated and decentralized way the neighborhoods of the nodes. ROSA builds its topology in function of the needs of the selected density. ROSA is therefore a purpose adjustable overlay network. ROSA is also scalable and offer a efficient routing. In this article we recall the basis of the ROSA overlay network and present four definitions for the density. In addition to these densities, one can define a new density in order to use ROSA for another purpose. ROSA can be adapted to many usages simply in modifying the definition of the density.
