The catalytic ozonation of 4-chlorophenol (4-cp) was catalyzed by using MnOx/γ-Al2O3 catalyst, and the optimal reaction conditions were studied and used for the degradation of the refractory organic pollutants in the coal gasification wastewater. It was observed that the degradation of 100mg/L 4-cp undergone a faster kinetics than the mineralization, 99.97% 4-cp was removed in 30min and 84.63% total organic carbons (TOC) of 4-cp was eliminated after 30min in the presence of 3.0 g·L-1 MnOx/γ-Al2O3 catalyst and the 3.0 g 03·h-1 ozone. The parameters such as initial pH value, the initial ozone dosage, the dosage of MnOx/γ-Al2O3 catalyst, the initial concentration of 4-cp and the reaction temperature could influence significantly on the degradation and the mineralization of 4-cp.
