The laboratory-scale fiber thread carrier sequencing batch biofilm reactor (SBBR) was developed to treat municipal wastewater with different C/N ratios. The influence of C/N ratios on nitrogen removal was evaluated under different conditions of Ttemperature=(25±1)°C, Vaeration=150 L/h, toperation=15 d, 20 d, 20 d. When the C/N ratios are 10.0, 5.0, 3.3, the average removal rates of COD were 87.2%, 92.3% and 94.3% those of NH3-N were 99.3% 99.7% and 78.1% and those of TN were 92.9% 67.3% and 48.2% respectively. The C/N ratios had little effect on the NH3-N removal, while they had greater effect on the removal of TN. When the C/N ratio was low, the removal efficiency of nitrogen decreased. In the SBBR, simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) occurred throughout the study. Moreover, the level of denitrification creased with the C/N ratio creasing.
