Abstract
The authors have developed a course on the CAD (computer-aided design)-based design of semicustom digital systems using the DAISY Logician V workstation. They describe the tutorial example, which helps students through the various steps of a digital design using this CAD system. The tutorial consists of a single high-level-language description of the system behavior; modular descriptions with top-level block diagrams; and a full-fledged hierarchical schematic of the final design. Simulation results at each step not only verified functionality but also showed the equivalency of each stage to the previous, more abstract implementations
