Currently, anion collectors were mostly synthesized with fatty acid as raw material but the cost is high. The main component of waste oil is triglyceride. Triglyceride can be transformed into glycerol and surfactants washing alkaline soap (such as sodium soap, potassium soap, etc.) through saponification. In this paper, the saponification of waste oil was studied with the purpose of achieving the best conditions for anionic collector preparation. The fatty acid soap was obtained at the mass ratio of sodium hydroxide to waste oil is 2:1,at temperatures of 90°C, stirred for 4 hours. The product was characterized for its flotation properties by using raw iron ore from San An Mining Corporate in Hunan province, the results showed that the grade of iron concentrate is 64.23% at feed grade of 50.10%, this indicates the collector made from recycling waste cooking oil has excellent flotation property, which can replace traditional anionic collector such as sodium oleate and paraffin oil soap being used in reverse flotation of iron ore containing silicate. This method explored a new way to recycle hogwash oil, not only avoid a waste of valuable resource, but also potentially avoid secondary pollution.
