Abstract
A novel navigation system for free ranging AGVs has been developed. It uses the differential time-of-flight from three or more ultrasonic transponders to determine the position and heading of the AGV. This paper describes the concept of the navigation system and presents experimental results which show that the AGV can be located to within nondimensional error of 0.038 of the base length.<>
