Abstract
This paper presents a new method for registration and stitching of adjacent views in an image mosaic, specifically for cylindrical panoramas. The possible registration errors for the overlap area of two pictures, captured by a camera mounted on a tripod at different rotation angles, have been analyzed, based on a general camera rotation model. Then a novel algorithm is proposed, based on affine and refocusing adjustments on the optimal stripe block where the stitching is to be implemented. The registration errors can be largely reduced because a narrow stripe block is selected instead of the whole overlap area. Simulations on the overlap area registration algorithm show that our method can significantly reduce the stitching errors.
