Abstract :
Multimedia distance learning is an important way to realize continuing education, lifelong education and quality education. In this paper, a P2P-based live multimedia system named PPLearn is presented to provide a scalable, reliable and high available live multimedia service for distance learning. Architecturally, PPLearn is constructed based on a two-layer hybrid P2P structure. In particular, a tree like P2P structure based on application layer multicast (ALM) is designed to connect the agent gateways in the inter-domain layer, and in the intra-domain layer, agent clients can either use ALM or IP multicast to view the distance learning program. Consequently, PPLearn can achieve a high level quality of service even in large-scale multimedia distance learning systems.
