            Abstract : 
This paper presents new trends and developments in fiber gratings for optical fiber communication systems. We have fabricated fiber gratings in germanosilicate optical fibers with UV-writing technology. The gratings have a Bragg wavelength of 1552 μm, maximum reflectivity of about 48% and the full width of the reflection peak at half height is 1.2 nm. Because fiber gratings are highly reflective, they can function as mirrors with frequency-dependent reflectivities
