Direct scarlet 4BE (DS-4BE) is a synthetic chemical dye and widely used in textile and dyeing industry. In this study, Penicillium sp. HS-DY08 was used as the original strain in the decoloraziation of DS-4BE and denitrification of nitrate and nitrite. Results indicated that HS-DY08 strain could decolorize DS-4BE dye in MSM medium and PDA media. Denitrification was obviously occurred in MSM medium containing nitrite or nitrate. Further study showed that HS-DY08 could synchronize decolorization and denitrification in MSM medium containing 30 mg/L DS-4BE dye and 100 mg/L nitrate. The decolorization and denitrification were completely finished within 6d, suggesting that HS-DY08 strain has practical significance and broad application prospect on the treatment of dye wastewater.
