Abstract :
A description is given of a comprehensive, fully integrated model for teaching writing known as the writing process which can be used as the model for an in-house writing workshop in an R&D laboratory. As presented in the Effective Technical Writing workshop at Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratories, the writing process includes four stages: (1) prewriting, (2) writing, (3) rewriting, and (4) publishing. Effective techniques for writing at each stage are presented, suited to the priorities of the stage. Use of the process produces a hierarchy of concerns, and the process is recursive
