Abstract :
Cross-linked polyethylene films have been coated with hybrid organic-inorganic transparent coatings formed through sol-gel reactions and containing small amounts (0.5 wt%) of graphene oxide (GO). Ageing in air at one temperature (120°C) slightly above the on-service one has been carried out in order to test the durability of XLPE substrate. The thermo-oxidative stability of the systems has been investigated by oxidative induction time (OIT) and FTIR measurements. Data so far obtained outline a remarkable contribution of hybrid coating and in particular of coating containing the GO to the thermo-oxidative resistance of the XLPE films.
