Abstract :
Prefabricated substations are widely used in China´s urban power distribution systems because of its compact design and high reliability. Proper maintenance of them is crucial to delivering uninterrupted power in urban areas. Within this framework, a novel designed system holds the promise of reducing maintenance costs and promoting automation level by introducing mobile communication technology and microprocessor-based RTU(remote terminal unit). The RTUs that install at the prefabricated substations not only function as data detection but also as fault diagnosis and automatic alarm when abnormality or emergency happens. The distributed substations within a certain area controlled by a centralized control station via GSM network which is useful for performing faster fault location and more complicated data processing to decrease repair and restoration time.
