Soil quality is the basis of primary products security and human health, and has a direct impact on the sustainable use of soil resources and ecosystem health. The development of soil health science foreshadows that soil science is in a new era. In this paper, authors discuss the comprehensive meaning of soil quality in the area of soil fertility quality, soil environmental quality and soil health quality, illustrate the close relationships among soil quality, food security and human health, and conclude with a series of soil quality restoration and management measures including ecological engineering technologies for rehabilitation and reconstruction of degraded soil ecosystem, soil heavy metal pollution remediation (bioremediation, physical rehabilitation, chemical restoration and microbial remediation) and pesticide utilization and management measures.
