            Abstract : 
Summary form only given. We use a modification of the transfer-matrix method to simulate the propagation of phase-modulated ultrashort laser pulses in linear one-dimensional (1D) PEG structures and apply the nonlinear finite-difference time-domain (NFDTD) techniques to consider the possibilities of pulse compression in 1D photonic crystals with third-order optical nonlinearity.
