Abstract :
A Positron Emission Tomography (PET) system with local extremely high spatial resolution could be built with affordable costs by using extremely high spatial resolution detectors. The continuous scintillator/Silcon photomultiplier (CS/SiPM) detector shows the potential of providing the extreme spatial resolution without deteriorating the detect efficient (DE). However, the spatial resolution performance of such a detector is nonuniform. The spatial resolution at the detector´s edge is worse than that at the center. In this work, we studied the impact of the detector´s non-uniform spatial resolution on the system´s performance, which seems to be rather limited according to our results. If the size of the central part with high spatial resolution is no less than 80% of the detection area, the system´s overall spatial resolution is hardly affected by the non-uniformity.
