The effect of temperature, initial pH value and the adding concentration of Effective Microorganisms (EM) on the effect of anaerobic digestion reduction of septic tank nightsoil sludge was studied by means of improving L9 (43) orthogonal layout. The result shows that all the 3 factors, ie, the temperature, initial pH value and the adding concentration of EM, have brought about very significant effect on anaerobic digestion reduction of septic tank nightsoil sludge. The sequential order of the removal effect of total solid (TS) and volatile solid (VS) from strong to week can be illustrated as: temperature >; initial pH value >; the adding concentration of EM, and that of COD can be illustrated as: temperature >; the adding concentration of EM >; initial pH value. When the temperature was 35°C, the initial pH value was 10 and the adding concentration of EM was 0.02%, the anaerobic digestion reduction effect of septic tank nightsoil sludge enhanced by EM was highest Under this optimum condition, after 20 days anaerobic digestion, TS, VS and COD removal rates of nightsoil sludge reached to 42.86%, 57.05% and 52.11%; respectively.
