The methanol was synthesized from cornstalk biomass (the agricultural residues) through thermo-chemical method. Some reaction conditions such as pressure, temperature and inlet flow rate of biomass syngas were optimized using orthogonal test when the type, the particle size and the ways of stuffing and activation of catalyst as well as the composition of the syngas obtained from the cornstalk biomass kept constant in a tubular-flow integral and isothermal reactor. The influence order of the three representative factors was inlet flow rate of syngas, reaction pressure and reaction temperature. And the optimal conditions were temperature 220°C, pressure 5 MPa and inlet flow rate of syngas 0.98 mol/h (standard condition). The maximum methanol time-space yield of 0.24 kg/kg/ h was obtained.
