Abstract
In this paper, the authors investigate the effects of microwave oven (MWO) interference on the performance of an ISM-band direct sequence/spread spectrum (DS/SS) system and propose techiques for improving the system performance. The computer simulation results show that, in the presence of MWO interference, the performance of the conventional DS/SS system is severely degraded by the effects of the interference. To deal with this problem, motivated by the statistical characteristics of the interference, the authors propose a chips-interleaving method and a new receiver design for DS/SS systems under a MWO interference environment. It is demonstrated that an improvement in performance can be obtained by using the interleaving together with this proposed receiver
