Abstract :
A flexible and compact general-purpose filter processor is presented. This processor is intended for the hardware-based simulation of wireless channels on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). When implemented on a Xilinx Virtex2P XC2VP100-6 FPGA, it utilizes 2% of the configurable slices, 9% of the dedicated 18times18-bitmultipliers, and 14 BlockRAMs. When paired with multiplicationfree interpolators, it can generate up to 300 million fading samples per second. The statistical properties of generated fading samples are shown to closely match the theoretical reference statistical properties.
