Spontaneous combustion of coal waste piles lead to a lot of pollutions. Pollution control and ecological restoration of coal waste piles with spontaneous combustion has become central issue of national research. In this paper, the mechanism of spontaneous combustion of coal waste piles is discussed, types and causes of pollution are analyzed, and technologies of pollution control and ecological restoration are summarized. The results are as follows: The pollutions have three forms: toxic gases pollution, acid pollution and heavy metal pollution. There are two types of pollution control technologies: Fire Fighting technologies (including grouting technology, soil covering technology and other technologies) oxidation inhibition and pollution control technologies (including bactericide technology, fly ash covering technology, microbiology technology, composite materials covering and compaction technology) .Ecological restoration technologies including plant species selection and planting technology. Technologies for pollution control and ecological restoration have been well development, while the research of multi-technology interaction is still undeveloped, which should be focused on.
