Abstract :
A particular justification for teaching software maintenance is presented. Specifically, it is pointed out that, when an instructor assigns maintenance exercises in a project-based course in software engineering, and when the assignment includes a carefully organized management model, students learn far more than they would from a traditional from-scratch development project
