Abstract
Assembly sequence is a kind of fundamental requirement in computer-aided assembly modeling and the design for assembly (DFA). Over the last decade there was extensive research in the field of assembly modeling and generating assembly sequence. Two major approaches of assembled objects are compositional and decompositional modeling. In this paper, by the classification of the part space topology relation in assembly modeling, a kind of new approach of constructing the assembly relationship matrix is presented. After mathematical analysis and development, it has been proved that the assembly matrix can be changed as a diagonal form. The physics concepts of the element value of the diagonal matrix means: The larger the value itself is, the more parts will be connected with the corresponding part in the assembly modeling. The application proved that the approach is feasible and efficient.
