Abstract :
Shunt hybrid power filter has been proved to be a useful approach to eliminate current harmonics caused by nonlinear loads. The passive power filter suppresses harmonic currents produced by the load, whereas the active power filter improves filtering characteristics of the passive filter. Nowadays, the passive filter has many kinds of topologies. Among them, the single tuned passive filter has gained extensive interests because of its simplicity and practicability. Different from conventional design methods, a novel design method for the single tuned passive filter is proposed in this paper to minimize the rating of active power filter. The filtering characteristics of hybrid power filter are detailed in frequency domain. Furthermore, in order to make the new topology designed in this paper work well, a novel compound controller is proposed which assures good filtering characteristics, high system stability and small active power filter rating. The stability of the compound controller is analyzed in time and frequency domain. The simulation and experimental results verify the validity and effectiveness of the system
