Abstract
The transmission line parameters may not remain constant all the time, they may vary with different environment conditions, and the variation has much influence on the accuracy of fault location. In this paper, the effect of parameter variation on fault location was first studied using simulated transient data generated using EMTP, then an algorithm combined with parameter estimation was presented, and finally the presented algorithm was tested by simulated transient data generated using EMTP and actual recorded data. Test results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the accuracy of fault location, especially when the line parameters provided are not accurate.
