Abstract :
Understanding of the performance of available bit rate, feedback oriented, data communications networks is critical to the further development and optimisation of these networks. This paper lays a foundation for understanding the transient behaviour of such networks by identifying six basic events, comparing the performance of various simulated systems, and by discussing and evaluating the major contributing factors to the transient behaviour
