Abstract :
One of the important features of infrared (IR) communications is its sensitivity to the direction of reception. Although a diffuse indoor IR channel is less sensitive to rotation than its counterparts, there are still variations in the channel characteristics that should be discussed. The authors investigate the effects of rotation on the characteristics of a diffuse IR channel considering important channel characteristics such as path loss and delay spread. The simulation results reported also show how changing the receiver field-of-view (FOV) affects the quality of the received signal in such a channel. They propose employing direction diversity reception in the IR receivers and briefly discuss advantages offered by employing this technique
