Abstract :
Summary form only given. This study regarded technology as a system and examined systemic factors that affect the economic performance of the technology. Using the systems approach to the analysis of a Korean company that imported both product and process technology to produce diesel engines, this study developed a model. For engineers to utilize to predict the economic performance of the technology in the market. In the parlance of the systems approach, industrial technology is a subsystem serving for its higher or super systems. At the same time, industrial technology comprises many of its own subsystems that work together systemically to make their higher systems function properly. In other words, industrial technology exists in the middle of a hierarchical chain of systems. Due to this systemic nature, adaption of a new technology into existing environments gives birth to various systemic problems that can negatively affect the economic performance of the technology. This paper, through a case study, found out that each systemic element of the technology was responsible for at least one systemic problem. By a systemic problem this paper meant a problem that emerged due to the systemic nature of the technology
