Abstract
By In-depth analyzing of STEP-NC data model for three-axis milling in ISO 14649 part 11, a new data model extension for five-axis milling was presented in this paper. With the principle of non-alteration of the original design and existing data model interface in STEP-NC, a new approach was developed to implement five-axis milling on free-form surface under STEP-NC framework. The data model extension use data model and interfaces in existing three-axis milling as far as possible to minimize the conflict with ISO 14649 part 11. The final validation experiment shows the efficiency of the this five-axis milling data model extension.
