Abstract :
This paper examines the new management skills and organizational design issues involved in the establishment of government-university-industry strategic partnerships (GUISPs). Based on existing literature analyzing knowledge sharing between firms, key lessons are derived on the theoretical requirements for successful transorganizational knowledge management in an alliance and the role of GUISPs in enhancing firm and national knowledge-based competitiveness. A case study approach is then used to summarize salient characteristics of three existing GUISPs in different national settings
