Abstract :
Multichannel signal design for cross-talk limited fiber optic systems is considered. We focus on mitigating cross-talk in the form of cross-phase modulation and four-wave-mixing phenomena resulting from fiber non-linearities. Heuristic signal designs are presented for systems dominated either by XPM effects or by FWM effects. The analysis indicates that the designs presented result in significant energy gains over traditional on-off keying based single user modulation schemes.
