Abstract :
A set of active strut controllers are developed based on desired impedance descriptions. Closed loop stability is investigated using the theory of passivity, and experimental results on a truss structure with a piezoelectric active strut are provided. The impedance describing a dashpot in series with the unsoftened open loop spring is found to be most attractive.
